Leading railway distributor Industry-Railway Suppliers, Inc. (IRS) and ALCEA USA recently recognized its 30-year partnership of providing security solutions to the railway industry. IRS distributes products to all Class One, regionals, shortlines, locomotive and car repair facilities, contractors and transit systems, and the partnership began when their Class One customers asked for a better security solution.
”Our customers requested a more secure lock than what was currently available from our existing suppliers at the time. ABLOY (now ALCEA) was able to offer more advanced solutions for many applications,” recalls IRS president Scott Commo.
”We’re excited to strengthen our long-term partnership with ABLOY (now ALCEA), and plan to continue to grow and advance together for many years to come. We have a well-structured distribution network, combined with a skilled and dedicated team, which serves U.S. railroad customers and contractors from coast-to-coast.”
Industry-Railway Suppliers, Inc. was founded in 1966 to service the needs of the railroads, including railroad maintenance facilities, shortlines and railroad contractors, in the eastern U.S. IRS later opened an office in the Chicago area in 1978 to service the western U.S. market. Company headquarters moved to a larger facility in suburban Elmhurst in 2016 to position IRS for future growth and to satisfy growing demands from the industry.
”We have been a long-time distributor of ABLOY security locks because we are confident that they will safeguard extremely critical locking systems on the railroad,” said Commo, a 20-year railroad industry veteran who joined IRS in 2011 and was promoted to president in 2015. ”We’ve also been provided with great support from ABLOY’s team. It has raised our confidence level knowing that we are well-backed by a strong worldwide brand.” See the video here.
Among the products Commo says IRS customers rely on include the award-winning ABLOY PROTEC2 CLIQ™ Connect, a mechatronic access control system that can be administered remotely.
”The advancements ABLOY has made with its CLIQ system keeps our customers ahead of any threats in the ever-changing security environment. It gives a user the ability to alter a key/lock remotely, providing another layer of protection to combat possible detrimental security breaches,” said Commo.
”It has been our experience that our customers know they can depend on ABLOY locks in the unforgiving railroad environment. The patented PROTEC2 keyway’s rotating disc technology creates almost two billion unique key combinations, making it one of the most advanced and secure mechanical locking systems available today.”
